We regularly host and co-create events at Mutrend Lab for a range of social and cultural activities among the local communities.

Every event hosted at Mutrend Lab is a design process too, we aim to create a unique experience each time you are with us.

 

Most of our events hosted by the Mu Collective members voluntarily. Any donations or 10% of profits from sales at Mutrend Lab are gathered to support Mu Collective’s on-going community projects and help sustaining our members at the collective. In alternative to transactional donations, we are currently seeking donations such as seeds, jars, tins and reclaimable design materials (for a full list, please click here).

A poetry workshop using looking at everyday objects and their place in our world. Who owns them? Where have they been? What can they tell us? The workshop takes a relaxed and friendly approach, and will be led by local poet Dave Hubble.

There will be opportunities to share your work if you wish.

EVENT THEME: 2½ bookclub: “Book” your place

2½ bookclub, is a new breed of the workshop delivered by Mu Collective for bookworms in Southampton.

The first series of 2½ bookclub is about gathering all the bibliophile together and sharing those unspoken but fascinating ideas and opinions through the notes written on the margins of books.

The only thing you need to do is to bring your favourite book (English version recommended) to our workshop on 1st November, and invite people to read a page or a chapter whilst taking some notes on the book margins. One hour and a half for reading, talking and relaxing.

EVENT THEME: Take a mind nap (Session 2)

Meditation have been part of human spirituality since the dawn of time. From Hindu and Buddhist techniques, to Sufi and Chinese methods, we will learn together how to bring more mindfulness into our lives.

In this session, we will initiate our souls to Zazen or Zen meditation which means “seated Zen” or “seated mediation“.

Mutrend Lab just hosted its 1st event at the historical shop location – 2 and A Half Portland Street, we welcomed our guests from different disciplines of areas living or working in the city of Southampton. It was a destined social gathering among some of our devoted cultural and creative community in Southampton, while Mutrend Lab has begun an exciting new journey to bring creativity and innovation to high street in Southampton city centre.

Very interesting and passionate individuals arrived on the night, some of the local residents as well as Mutrend Lab’s customers are described as socially and culturally engaged scientist, artists, independent designers, millennial self-media, active learners, community advocates and educators. A quite diverse cultural backgrounds of individuals living in Southampton were represented on the night too, including Belgium, China, Japan and Portugal. We shared our experience, ideas and enthusiasm, a great amount of discussions on positive changes that some of us are actively involved in for the city’s future and possible collaborations cross different lines of work.

The event was also a celebration for our launching of Mutrend Lab in Southampton city centre, being the newest addition as an independent concept store to the South Coast’s shopping hub. It was invaluable for us to hear some direct feedbacks from our guests on the night.
